Much has been written about the benefits of outsourcing and why, in these modern times, it is the way to go. Technological advancement has made the world a much smaller place meaning that co-operation and communication is so much easier - wherever in the world you may be.
There are many great articles that already cover why we should outsource work like administration, web maintenance, social media support, etc., so I don't intend to try and rewrite them but I would like to offer a different perspective.
First of all, let's establish the meaning. What is the definition of outsourcing? Well, Dictionary.com gives us this:
"To purchase or subcontract goods or services from an outside supplier or source."
When you think about that, we all outsource work to people, all the time. At home, how many of the following have you ever called upon?
And in business, how many of these have you used or currently use?
Marketing & Sales Agencies
And for each one ticked, why have we chosen to call upon those services? It could be that we don't have the necessary skill or knowledge to do that particular task. Some of those service providers are highly specialised, but all have their niche. We may be quite capable of performing the necessary task but we simply don't have the time or the inclination. There are many reasons for seeking outside help but the point is, we do it. We do it, in some cases, without really thinking about it.
Despite all of this, there still seems to be some reluctance in considering outsourcing as a serious option, especially with office management support. It could be that you can do the job - even if it takes you twice as long! Traditional staffing solutions are the preferred method in many cases, even if they're not always cost effective. Outsourcing office based work - to a person who has many years of experience in an office environment, who knows their way around organisation, projects, procedures and much more, and is proficient with modern technology - is really no different to working with any of those business types listed above.
