It's the time of year when we are thinking about all things festive. Whether this time of year is full-on for your business or whether this is a quiet spell for your business, we all have to make preparations for the festive season.
With cards to send, gifts to arrange - to thank clients for their support (you might be lucky enough to have a PA do that for you - a service I provide, by the way!), then there are the company and networking lunches or Christmas parties to organise/attend, it is a busy time. And you still have a business to run.
If you are able to close down between Christmas and New Year, that's a bonus but if not there is much to organise.
Make sure you have staff cover, if needed, over the Christmas period.
Update the email 'out of office' and voicemail messages. Clients will need to know when and how you can be contacted.
You could send an email broadcast to your mailing list giving details of your business arrangements during the Christmas and New Year break.
Check the order books or your work schedule to be certain that all regular work is completed and nothing is outstanding.
If, like me, you take care of calendars for clients then check that everything is in place and properly organised for the client,
Make sure that ongoing project tasks' which are due to be completed during the Christmas period, are carried before Christmas or are scheduled to run while you are away.
If you are normally posting business updates to your social media accounts on a regular basis, this would be a good time to implement a scheduling tool to keep up the momentum.
Are your staff clear about time off and when they are expected to return to work? Do you need to pay them earlier due to bank holidays?
With everything in order and up to date, it's time to relax and enjoy the Christmas fun.
Have a very Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year. See you in 2017.
